The food sector has embarked on a number of exciting initiatives to raise food manufacturing's profile. This presentation will outline what is being planned.

This presentation will outline the latest training schemes on offer to individuals and employers.

What can be done to make the most of student talent coming through and what does the industry have to do to attract the best people?

11.30: Apprenticeships - Abi Smith, Senior Manager, Research & Technical UK Commission for Employment and Skills
The food and drink supply chain has committed itself to creating 50,000 new apprenticeships - 3,400 within food and drink manufacture: Intermediate, Advanced and Higher Apprenticeships. What are manufacturers - both large and small - doing?
11.50: View from the shopfloor: Food and drink manufacturing/engineering apprentices to share their experiences of how they view the industry, what attracted them to it and how their apprenticeships are working out.
12.10: Transferable skills - Jon Poole, IFST
A sector initiative from FDF, Improve and IFST plans to create a modular training scheme. This will allow individuals to acquire transferable individual qualifications which are directly relevant to employers.
12.30: Panel discussion and Q&A: What do we need to do to ensure the UK continues to have a thriving food and drink manufacturing sector? How do we ensure that it is sustainable, able to compete globally and continues to generate wealth and high quality jobs for the nation?
